Luxury, 27 September 2023 - PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia received a Vice Minister of BUMN Republic of Indonesia Kartiko Wirjoatmodjo in the development area of Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR) Mempawah, West Kalimantan. The visit is the step of the BUMN Ministry in supporting the implementation of national strategic projects in meeting the needs of alumina in Indonesia.
In the visit, Wamen Kartiko reviewed the progress of the development of Smelter that has started its development process since 2019. In the visit, the progress of SGAR Mempawah has reached 68%, with the target completed in 2024. The SGAR project is that will connect the supply chain between mineral ore odoroxyt (Western Union) with aluminum melting plant (INALUM). If it has been operating, it is calculated to produce 1 million tons of alumina per year (the raw material is 3.3 million tons of odors per year). Targeted will start producing in 2024 and achieve full production capacity at 2025.

Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery located in Mempawah is a strategic project initiated by INALUM and ANTAM through INALUM’s subsidiary, PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia (BAI). SGAR Mempawah is part of the INALUM corporate action in creating an integrated aluminium industry ecosystem from the hulu to downstream. INALUM hopes to continue to gain support from all stakeholders in order to Indonesian ideals can be achieved immediately and eliminated national aluminum quickly realized.

Some other corporate action conducted by INALUM in order to increase production capacity as a response to the high potential of the current national aluminium market has a request of up to 1 million tons. The projects include, the Reduction Technology Upgrading Project will be completed in 2023, the targeted Kuala Tanjung Smelter Optimization will increase the production capacity in 2024-2025 and the IAA Remelt Aluminum diversification Project.
