Asahan, 14 Juni 2024 - PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum or INALUM celebrated the first harvest of melon cultivation in the Aek Songsongan area, Asahan Regency. The program, which is a collaboration between the company and Karang Taruna in the area, is INALUM's commitment to creating new economic growth in the area around the company's operations.
INALUM Corporate Secretary Mahyaruddin Ende said that this collaboration program was the company's commitment to realizing independence and community empowerment, especially for young people. INALUM Senior VP CSR/TJSL Daniel JP Hutauruk said that this productive collaboration could improve the welfare of the surrounding community in a more sustainable manner. He said that future plans are not just melons and chilies or onions, but will try to cultivate other agro commodities.
“Not only melon plants, but at this location, corn, chilies, long beans, cucumbers, cassava, eggplant, papaya, watermelon, oranges are also being planted. We hope that in the future, with the presence of various types of plants, this can become an integrated farming area to obtain an agroecosystem that supports agricultural production. "So we hope that through this garden we can also lift the economy of the local area by utilizing the land under the Inalum transmission line," said Daniel during the First Melon Harvest activity in Aek Songsongan.
Meanwhile, Eko Pranolo as Chair of the Aek Songsongan Village Youth Organization said that Inalum together with the Aek Songsongan District Government continue to encourage and provide lots of space for young millennial farmers to be creative in introducing and utilizing agricultural technology.
"Community Empowerment efforts carried out by PT Inalum not only have an impact on increasing youth capacity in the agricultural sector, but the introduction and use of technology to accelerate agricultural management has not escaped PT Inalum's attention," said Eko.
