INALUM and Kodim 022/Asahan Collaboration of Mangrove Planting in Cosmet Batu Bara With Kelompok Tani Cinta Mangrove

Batu Bara, October 02 2023 – PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum or INALUM collaborated with the Military District Command (Kodim) 022/Asahan conducted mangrove planting on the coast of Batu Bara Regency, North Sumatra. This activity is a company’s annual activity in maintaining mangrove ecosystems in the surrounding company.

Corporate INALUM Mahyaruddin Ende calls that mangrove planting program by INALUM is an annual routine program conducted by the company as a step of the company in maintaining the coastal ecosystem in Batu Bara Regency.

“Every year, INALUM along the whole stakeholders and community groups do mangrove planting on the coast around the company. At this time, we collaborate with Kodim 022/Asahan and Tani Love Mangrove Group. We hope, this planting program can be continued by many parties, many collaborations, and provide benefits for nature and also for the community who have benefited from mangrove,” Mahyaruddin said.

Plantation is carried out in the coast area of the History of the Village of Perupuk District Limapuluh Regency Batu Bara. A total of 15 thousand mangrove seeds are planted. At this time planting, INALUM and Kodim 022/Asahan assisted by Tani Love Mangrove Group (KCTM) which is currently a INALUM counterpart in conducting mangrove land rehabilitation in Batu Bara Regency. The activity was attended by Vice President Smelter Governance & External Communication Fajri Ramadhan, Dandim 022/Asahan Letkol in Muhammad Bassarewan, and Chairman of KCTM Azizi.

PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (Inalum) since 2014 until now consiten encourages mangrove land rehabilitation on this beach. In cooperation with (KTCM) chaired by Azizizi, this beach is more tidy, has complete supporting facilities. Now more than 50 people around the beach as tour manager and UMKM won new income from this destination.

As for a series of programs, including 2014 began the development of the Nursery Mangrove infrastructure, 2015 began nursery and planting, 2018 Tani Love Mangrove Group (KTCM) which is a partner organization of the program to obtain the utilization of Forest Confectionery (IUPHKM) from Ministry of Environment, 2019 nursery and planting, in 2020 initiation of ecotourism, in 2021 the establishment of ex-abrasion areas, the year 2022 mangrove batik training and KM mangrove results.

The INALUM step encourages mangrove conservation with KCTM has succeeded in maintaining an expisting mangrove forest area of 15 ha with total seeds planted reaching 51 thousand mangrove seeds. In addition to KTCM is also involved in the provision of mangrove seedlings to be planted in Jono Beach, Lalang Village and in Asahan Beach. Mangrove ecosystem has an effective ability in absorbing CO2 to 871,9 Ton CO2/ha as a company business in supporting Indonesia Net Zero Emission 2060 program.
