Bringing New Light to Old Age Through Free Cataract Surgery

Batu Bara, December 24, 2024 – In order to commemorate its 49th anniversary, PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM) demonstrated its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) by holding free treatment in the form of cataract surgery for the elderly around the operational area of ​​the smelter. This program aims to restore hope and happiness to the elderly who have been prevented from seeing the beauty of the world due to cataracts.

A total of eight participants consisting of elderly people with cataracts underwent surgery for 10 eyeballs. This activity was carried out thanks to the collaboration between the CSR Section of PT INALUM led by the Vice President of Community Empowerment of the INALUM Smelter Plant, Mr. Ali Hasian Harahap, the PT INALUM Health Center Clinic with Dr. Budi Hariyanto, and a team of eye specialists from Medan City.

"This free cataract surgery program is a real manifestation of PT INALUM's concern for the surrounding community, especially the elderly who need this treatment so they can see well again and enjoy the beauty of the world's scenery as a human right," said Mr. Ali Hasian Harahap.

The operation that took place at PT INALUM's health facility gave encouraging results. One of the participants, Mr. Misno (72), expressed his gratitude after being able to see clearly again. "After being blurry for so long, finally my eyes can see again. Thank you PT INALUM, this is the best gift in my life," he said with teary eyes.

Doctor Budi Hariyanto who led the operation explained, “Cataracts are often the main cause of blindness in the elderly. With the right medical treatment, they can see again. We are honored to be part of this program together.”
